Middle School at St Therese Academy is a time of preparation as our students get ready to make the transition to high school. Our fifth through seventh grade curriculum consists of five core classes along with Physical Education, STEM and Art. Like Lower School, we use Louisiana State Standards to create our lessons and to assure readiness for the next grade level. At St Therese, we strive to provide a well-rounded education for your child that highlights their interests and natural abilities.
In English Language Arts, students read and analyze classic and contemporary literature and nonfiction text while they master crucial writing and grammar skills with the use of Reading Mastery Transformation.
In Mathematics, students learn to reason abstractly and quantitatively. We teach students to make sense of problems, to construct viable arguments, and to use appropriate tools strategically within the Eureka Math Squared curriculum. Through hands-on instruction and experiments in our science classes, students explore the concepts of life, earth, and physical sciences. Microscopes, sensors, and probeware enhance the use of technology in our science curriculum. Our students also expand their scientific knowledge through a STEM class four days a week. Our students are using tools, such as legos, to apply knowledge and show true mastery of concepts.
Technology is an important component of education at St Therese. Through the use of 1:1 Chromebooks, we are able to enhance the curriculum and provide a blended learning environment.
Middle school is also a time when our students take on more responsibility, from changing classes for each subject, to having their own lockers, to becoming leaders within our school community. We make lots of memories through traditions that our students look forward to, including a retreat with Archbishop Rummel and Archbishop Chapelle. We focus on character development, friendship and helping our students grow into leaders as they prepare to make the transition to high school.
